If there's a car that truly intrigues me, possibly more than any other new car coming out on the market right now, it's Lotus' new Evora. While I love the Elise roadster and Exige S coupe models, especially in top-line trim, something slightly more luxurious would suit my everyday driving tastes better.

This is where the Evora comes in. Introduced at the British Motor Show in London in August and getting set to make its LA debut, the new Evora, previously known as Project Eagle, is much more than just luxuriously appointed. It's a 2+2. This alone could make it the most popular car the company offers and more of a 911 fighter than anything in its current lineup.

“The Evora is the biggest milestone Lotus has achieved since the Elise was born 13 years ago and is part of our bold five-year strategic plan, which includes the introduction of new cars and technologies to many more markets around the world,” commented Mike Kimberley, CEO of Group Lotus. “The Evora also represents Lotus core values of performance through light weight and efficiency and proves that you can have phenomenal performance, fuel-efficiency, elegant design and practicality all in a class leading mid-engine 2+2 sports car, which will meet global safety and homologation standards.”

Truly, the Evora's 2+2 coupe layout results in a more livable all-rounder than Lotus' current crop of weekend playthings. First and foremost it'll be easier to get in and out of. Lotus has endowed the Evora with wider, taller door openings and narrower sills for a less “athletic undertaking” than in the brand's smaller sports cars, while the cabin design will accommodate two 99th percentile (6ft 5in tall) American males up front. Therefore it's ideal for sporting moms and dads with small children, and due to those two rear seats less expensive to insure in some areas. If you don't need the extra seats a two-seat configuration can be had with a luggage shelf instead, although Lotus says the 5.6 cubic foot trunk has space enough for a golf bag, either way.
